Newcastle controversy: Ex-PL CEO lifts lid on Vlachodimos investigation
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Newcastle United have “pushed the boundaries” with their £20million signing of Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the Premier League will investigate the goalkeeper’s true market value if they choose to take action against the Magpies.
Vlachodimos was signed by Newcastle from Nottingham Forest for a reported effective fee of £20million after factoring in Elliot Anderson’s £35million switch to the Midlands club.
Forest signed the Greek shot-stopper from Benfica in September 2023 for a reported £7.7million and he made just seven appearances at the City Ground.
His move is one of several controversial “swap deals” between Premier League clubs this summer.
Newcastle have ‘pushed boundaries’ with controversial deal, says Wyness
Football Insider revealed on 26 July that Vlachodimos’s move to Newcastle is likely to be assessed by the Premier League over whether its value has been inflated.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “From what I know, the investigation will take a similar shape to that of the associated party transactions.
“They’ll find the market value with their own data – based on appearances and statistics – and they’ll determine what Vlachodimos should have been worth.

“There may be extraneous circumstances we’re not aware of.
“But at this moment, I do feel Newcastle are pushing the boundaries slightly.”
