‘Newcastle could now agree A-list striker signing – he wants £150,000 a week’
Newcastle United could agree a deal to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer this summer.
The 28-year-old is currently without a club after he left Everton following the expiration of his contract on 30 June.
The 11-cap England international scored just three league goals in the 2024-25 campaign, taking his Premier League tally to 57 strikes in 239 appearances.
Newcastle have registered an interest in signing Calvert-Lewin this summer, while he’s also been linked with a move to Man United.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the forward would likely demand around £150,000 a week in wages.
Newcastle are on the lookout for a new striker after Callum Wilson left the club following the expiration of his contract on 30 June.

Newcastle could agree risk-free Calvert-Lewin deal
Borson insisted it would make sense for Newcastle to sign Calvert-Lewin after previously attempting to secure his services.
He told Football Insider: “If you remember a year ago, there was a quite a lot of talk that Newcastle were prepared to buy him.
“If you were prepared to spend £30million a year ago, you would think you’d be desperate to get a hold of him this summer. Although, he didn’t have a great season last season, but he’s the right age still.
“I think wage wise, I bet the wage commitment is not materially higher even though he’s a free agent versus what he would have wanted last season because he would have been mindful of the free agent situation.
“I suspect he wants £150,000 a week, something like that. That would put him probably in the middle of Newcastle, and probably the lower end of Manchester United. But probably in the middle block at Newcastle, so it’s doable.
“There is no fee, so it’s going to be appealing. If people rate him, it’s going to be appealing. I think from the outside looking at it, he’s been a player who has had a lot of injuries and has flattered to deceive probably a little bit too often.
“But if you’re not paying a fee, you can take a more measured view because the reality is if he fails at Newcastle or Manchester United and they paid nothing for him, the likelihood is you can loan him out, with his wages being paid by another team or you can give him a free transfer.
“It’s very unlikely you’re going to lose material money on a player of his reputation if you get him for free as long as you get him on the right salary, which I’m sure that they both would. So, it’s a business deal probably rather than a football deal.
“But for Newcastle, the fact that they liked him footballing wise, it would make sense to do that deal now.”

Liverpool could accelerate move to sign Newcastle star
In terms of a potential exit at St James’ Park, Football Insider revealed on 18 July Liverpool could accelerate their efforts to sign Alexander Isak if he pushes to leave Newcastle this summer.
However, with the Reds now closing in on the mega-money signing of Newcastle target Hugo Ekitike, the Magpies have received a boost in their bid to keep Isak.
Newcastle believe Liverpool have been trying to unsettle Isak by making their interest public in recent weeks.
