Newcastle could land ‘£100m’ windfall after stunning twist – Stefan Borson
Newcastle United could generate up to £100million in prize money if they manage to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that would be a “game-changer” for the Tyneside club moving forward.
Newcastle qualified for the Champions League in 2022-23 following their fourth-place finish in the Premier League.
But they were knocked out in the group stages of the competition last season after finishing bottom behind Borussia Dortmund, PSG and AC Milan.
The north-east giants missed out on European qualification for this campaign after their seventh-place finish last season didn’t prove to be enough.
But Eddie Howe’s side are currently in contention for a Champions League spot again, having won five Premier League games in a row to take them up to fifth in the table.
Newcastle could receive financial boost with European qualification
Borson admitted it would make a “huge” difference to the club’s financial situation.
He told Football Insider: “If you had spoken about it maybe six weeks ago, Newcastle did not look like they could challenge for the Champions League.
“Now all of a sudden, they do look like they can.
“If they do manage to qualify, you are talking about a prize there next season of potentially £100million.
“That’s a bit of a game-changer.
“You have now got the bigger group stage.
“You have got the probability for all of the Premier League teams that they get the extra two knockout games at least in the Champions League.

“There are more games if they qualify and there is bigger prize money anyway.
“You can easily be looking at £100million if you can get through to the round of 16 or the quarters.
“That makes a huge difference.”
