Newcastle could land ‘£2m’ windfall after new reveal – Stefan Borson
Newcastle United could generate up to £2million a year from their official fan zone outside St James’ Park.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Tyneside club are still facing profit and sustainability (PSR) challenges.
Newcastle have struggled to comply with the Premier League’s financial rules since their Saudi-backed takeover in 2021, with Eddie Howe’s side forced to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh in the latest summer window.
The north-east giants’ latest published accounts showed their revenue rose to £250.3million for 2022-23, while CEO Darren Eales confirmed in July he expects the figure to have reached a club-record high last season by surpassing £300million.
Chronicle Live reported on 21 December Newcastle could be set to generate more than £1.5million this month from the STACK, an official fan zone outside St James’ Park.
Newcastle revenue could soar with Champions League qualification
But Borson insisted those numbers are unlikely to be pure profit.
He told Football Insider: “It depends whether that £1.5million goes to the bottom line or if it’s just revenue.
“It seems like a lot if you were to annualise it.
“I think it’s unlikely they can make £5-10million of profit from non-stadium stuff, to be honest. I think it must be top line.
“But if it’s at a 10 per cent margin let’s say and they can generate £2million extra, it’s worth having. I don’t think it’s going to move the dial.
“They have talked a lot about PSR challenges that are still there.

“But in the last few weeks they have gone from looking unlikely for Champions League to all of a sudden being absolutely in the mix.
“They have won three games in a row in the Premier League.
“Clearly, Champions League would wipe the floor with profits from a fan zone.”
