Newcastle could make 'incredible' Emery appointment after confirmed news - pundit

Unai Emery’s struggles at Arsenal should not discourage Newcastle United’s owners from installing him as their new manager, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Gunners and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, described the 49-year-old’s job at Sevilla and Villarreal on a low budget as “incredible”.

Newcastle United confirmed Steve Bruce had left the club by mutual consent on Wednesday morning.

Graeme Jones is now in interim charge of the first team while the club look for a successor.

According to The Times (18th October), Emery is at the top of the new owners’ shortlist for the now vacant position.

The ex-Arsenal boss is currently in charge of Villarreal, whom he led to the Europa League title last season.

The Northern Echo claim he would be willing to leave the La Liga side for Newcastle.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Emery, Campbell said: “One thing he is, is a very good manager. He has proven that.

“His tenure at Arsenal did not go as he would have liked but he still did OK. It is important to remember that we have never see him manage with money before.

“What he did with Sevilla and is doing with Villarreal, on a budget, is incredible.

“I would like to see what he could do with money behind him. It would be really interesting to see him at Newcastle. I would be intrigued as to what he could do.

“There will be quite a few managers interested in the Newcastle spot, that’s for sure.”
