Newcastle could seal ‘exceptional’ Lingard signing after Sky update on permanent deal – pundit

Kevin Campbell is adamant a move to Newcastle United would be beneficial for Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said the “exceptional” 29-year-old could force his way back into the England team with a successful spell at St. James’ Park.

It has been widely reported that Man United have rejected a loan bid from the Magpies for Lingard.

However, according to Sky Sports‘ Pete Graves this afternoon (20 January), a permanent deal for the attacking midfielder is possible this month.

It is said that United are open to selling Lingard given that he has entered the final six months of his contract at Old Trafford.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the latest, Campbell said: “It’d a move that would definitely work.

“Lingard is proven. He is an England international who has showed his class at both Manchester United and West Ham.

“Man United did not want to lose him last summer. For whatever reason, he hasn’t got the game time he would’ve liked this season but now he has another opportunity to go out on loan.

“At Newcastle he can play football, score goals and show Gareth Southgate what a good player he is ahead of the World Cup.

“He is an exceptional player. I think that would be a really good move for all parties.”
