Newcastle could yet sign Lingard after journalist's 'huge' update last night - pundit

Newcastle United should not give up hope of signing Jesse Lingard before Monday’s deadline, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 29-year-old would be “a huge signing” for the Magpies given his “match-winning” ability.

According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein (25 January), Newcastle’s proposed move for Lingard is on the verge of collapse.

Ralf Rangnick has given the attacking midfielder the green light to leave Manchester United but the quoted loan fee is proving to be an obstacle.

According to talkSPORT‘s Alex Crook last night (25 January), a potential deal is not “totally off the table yet.”

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Lingard’s potential move to St. James’ Park, Campbell said: “It’d be a huge signing and the latest suggests it’s still possible.

“A player that ripped it up at West Ham last season. He is a player who can create, can score and can be a match-winner as well. He has played at the top level.

“With the World Cup coming up, he will be desperate to go out there and play. At Newcastle he would have the opportunity so showcase his skills.

“If they can get this done, it will. be a real plus. I think he would be a really good signing if they can get him for a reasonable loan fee.”

Lingard has entered the final six months of his contract at Old Trafford.

West Ham, Spurs and Everton are also believed to be interested.

In other news, it can be revealed Newcastle have turned their attention to signing a boyhood fan in a new defender twist.
