Newcastle ‘doing everything’ to block Howe’s Man United move – sources
Newcastle United will “do everything” to prevent Eddie Howe from making the move to Man United, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on 24 September that United are keeping tabs on Howe, 46, with Erik ten Hag’s job hanging by a thread at Old Trafford.
He worked with the Red Devils’ sporting director Dan Ashworth at St James’ Park – but there is no love lost between the two clubs after their battle over compensation for the transfer guru.
Howe is under a long-term contract which does not have a set release clause, meaning Man United would have to again negotiate a compensation package with Newcastle.
In any case, sources say Howe is content on Tyneside and will not push for a move away – even if the Red Devils come calling.
Newcastle ready to fend off Howe interest at Old Trafford
That is despite disagreements behind the scenes at St James’ Park with new sporting director Paul Mitchell and the departure of close ally Amanda Staveley.
Howe was appointed in November 2021, shortly after the Saudi-backed takeover at Newcastle.
He led the Magpies to the Champions League in his first full season at the club, before finishing seventh in an injury-hit 2023-24 campaign.

This term, the Tyneside club sit seventh after losing just one of their opening seven games this term.
Meanwhile, Man United are 14th in the Premier League after picking up just eight points from a possible 21 in the new season.
