Newcastle expected 4-2-3-1 v Burnley: 27-year-old on the bench in Benitez XI

By George Brooks

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is expected to name an unchanged side for the Premier League trip to Burnley on Monday evening.

The Magpies are unbeaten in their last three matches after last Saturday’s win over Crystal Palace and will move up to sixth place in the Premier League table with another victory.

Striker Dwight Gayle, 27, will return to squad for the trip to Turf Moor, having missed the 1-0 win at St. James’ Park.

The 28-year-old, who scored 23 goals in the Championship last season, has recovered from a calf problem but may have to settle for a place on the bench, behind striker Joselu.

Boss Benitez has no new injury concerns, with defender Paul Dummett remaining the only absentee owing to a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, Burnley currently sit eighth in the table and will overtake the Magpies with a win.

Sean Dyche’s side are unbeaten in their last eight Premier League meetings with Newcastle, but have doubts over the fitness of top scorer Chris Wood.

The former Leeds striker was substituted in the 3-0 reverse at Manchester City last weekend with a hamstring problem.

Fellow striker Sam Vokes is also a doubt, but could return, after missing the defeat at the Etihad Stadium with an abdominal strain.

Newcastle are without a win in their last four visits to Turf Moor, losing three and drawing one.

In other Newcastle news, Benitez has insisted this midfielder is doing a “great job” despite criticising his latest performance.
