Newcastle fan favourite out for weeks with injury blow, will miss clash v Bournemouth - report

Newcastle United will be without midfielder Mikel Merino for their clash against Bournemouth at St. James’ Park on Saturday, according to a report.
The Shields Gazette claims that Merino, 21, has been ruled out of the upcoming Premier League fixture after he was sent to a specialist this week for treatment on a back injury that saw him sidelined in Monday’s defeat to Burnley.
It is understood that the Magpies are hopeful that it isn’t a long-term setback for the Spaniard, who has become somewhat of a fan favourite since arriving on Tyneside from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
With the international break to follow the clash with the Cherries, Merino is set to be out of action for several weeks for Newcastle.
Rafa Benitez has previously admitted that he will have to “wait too see” about Merino’s recovery, with him originally being a doubt for the Bournemouth game.

However now, the Shields Gazette claims that he will definitely miss the chance to play against Eddie Howe’s side.
Merino has made nine appearances and scored one goal across all competitions since joining the Magpies, becoming an instant hit with the fans as he has arguably been their best player this season.
He originally moved to Newcastle on a loan deal, which was then made permanent after impressing so much in his opening performances in the black and white stripes.
In other Newcastle United news, a manager has declared his interest in striking up a January agreement for this Magpies forward.
