'World class' - Newcastle fans rave about surprise standout display v Crystal Palace

Newcastle drew 1-1 away at Crystal Palace on Sunday in a battle at the bottom of the Premier League and after taking a 1-0 lead in the match, supporters of the Magpies were very complimentary about one player in particular.
Mohamed Diame scored a 22nd-minute opening goal as Rafa Benitez’ side dominated the opening stages of the game and the Senegal native earned the plaudits from Magpies fans as they took to social media to express their pleasure with the midfielder.
The 30-year-old is usually on the receiving end of negative comments for his displays, however his form of late has greatly improved – which is why one fan described him as ‘Our best player the past month,’ while another questioned ‘Wheres all the Diame haters now?’
Newcastle are desperate for points as they bid to stave off yet another relegation from the top-flight – a fate which could have dire consequences for all at St James’ Park.
Rafa Benitez’ side are just one point above the relegation zone and a win against Crytal Palace would have been a fantastic boost for morale and their chances of Premier League survival.
Manchester United are up next for the north-east side at St James’ Park which is looking as though it will be a must-win match.
Here is a selection of what supporters had to say about the midfielder on Twitter:
