Newcastle fans all say the same thing as Liverpool ‘confirm’ Alexander Isak injury news
Newcastle United supporters have flocked to social media after the crushing news of Alexander Isak’s injury at Anfield.
Despite scoring the opener against Tottenham on Saturday, 20 December, Isak was replaced by Jeremy Frimpong on the hour mark, just 15 minutes after coming onto the pitch.
The 26-year-old has scored just three goals for the Reds since forcing a move away from St James’ Park, with the Magpies enjoying his inability to stay fit after £130million was splashed on his signature.
His replacement, Yoane Wissa, has now opened his account for Newcastle, but over on Merseyside, Arne Slot now faces the prospect of being without his star striker for most of the campaign.
Alexander Isak could be sidelined for months with a broken leg
According to Sky Sports (22 December), Liverpool are set to confirm that Isak has broken his leg after being tackled by Micky van de Ven, which could leave him sidelined for months.
While it is not believed that Van de Ven should be punished for his challenge, the Reds could take legal action. Either way, the supporters of his former team are taking joy out of the situation.
One supporter said that he was “disappointed” in the Spurs defender for not breaking both of Isak’s legs, while multiple others suggested this was “karma” for the way he left during the summer.
- @SpewingMagpie: “The only regret about Isak breaking his leg is that the other one isn’t broken #NUFC.”
- @mynameisaaron88: “Karma rarely slaps somebody in the kisser as quickly as it has Isak. Don’t take any pleasure from it, but also have absolutely zero sympathy. Nothing more than a rat to me.”
- @DobbySolanoNUFC: “Prefer this new Isak celebration where he hobbles off the pitch after scoring.”
Arne Slot set for double blow as Mohamed Salah exit plan forged
As well as losing Isak to injury, the Reds could also be set for life with superstar winger Mohamed Salah, who has now jetted off to AFCON ahead of the January transfer window.
Football Insider understands that Salah will not leave Liverpool next month, but speculation continues to swirl around when his last game could be, despite being contracted until the end of next season.
He appears to have mended his relationship with the manager, but if the Reds want to sell the Egyptian for profit, they will have to cash in during one of the upcoming transfer windows.
Slot is already without Giovanni Leoni and Cody Gakpo, having recently welcomed back Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, but everything appears to be crumbling at Anfield this season.
The manager is under tremendous pressure to keep the team on track for silverware, but the Reds’ chances of winning anything continue to slip after news such as Isak’s injury.
