'Fraud', 'Wasted money' - Newcastle fans blame one player for defeat v Burnley

By Guy Giles

Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter in force to slam the performance of striker Joselu after the Magpies fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor on Monday night.

A Jeff Hendrick strike broke the deadlock in the 74th minute, and Newcastle were unable to find a way back into the game as Burnley’s impressive start to the season continued.

With the defeat, Newcastle remain in 9th place in the Premier League, with four wins from their opening 10 matches leaving them on 14 points.

And the Toon Army didn’t take long to make their feelings known as Spanish forward Joselu again failed to impress up front for Newcastle.

The game against Burnley represented Joselu’s eighth Premier League start in a row, with the striker only managing to bag two goals in that time.

Joselu joined Newcastle from Stoke in the summer for a fee of around £5 million, and his failure to find the back of the net regularly for his new club is unsurprising when looking at his previous records.

The marksman only scored four goals for Stoke in 27 appearances, and endured an unsuccessful loan spell at Deportivo where he bagged just six goals in 24 appearances.

It now seems Newcastle fans are already fed up with the Spaniard’s performances, and Football Insider has rounded up the best twitter responses to his display v Burnley here:

However, there were the small few in the Toon Army who leapt to the Spaniard’s defence:
