Newcastle United fans took to Twitter to destroy the performance of winger Jacob Murphy in the first half of the club’s clash with Watford on Saturday.

The Magpies went into half time 2-0 down thanks to a Will Hughes strike, after the Hornets had torn apart the Newcastle defence with their counter attacking football.

Up the other end of the pitch, it was down to Murphy and the rest of the Magpies’ attack to try and find a way back into the match, but they found it difficult to create chances, with several misplaced passes and ineffectual play.

Murphy was perhaps most guilty of wasting chances, and the Newcastle faithful made sure to voice their frustrations over the youngster’s performance on Twitter.

Here, Football Insider has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ best tweets:

The youngster was starting his second successive match for the Magpies after appearing against Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend in the 4-1 defeat.

His prolonged run in the side comes after regular left winger Christian Atsu was ruled out of action through injury.

Since arriving from Norwich over the summer, he has seven appearances under his belt for the club, with Saturday his third start.
