Newcastle United supporters have taken to social media to voice their delight at the return of goalkeeper Karl Darlow to the starting XI for their clash against West Brom.
The Magpies revealed their starting XI via their official Twitter account, which confirmed that manager Rafael Benitez had chosen to make five changes to the line up which were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Watford over the weekend.

Dropping out of the side were Rob Elliot, Javi Manquillo, Jonjo Shelvey, Mo Diame and Dwight Gayle, with Darlow, Chancel Mbemba, Mikel Merino, Isaac Hayden and Ayoze Perez replacing them all.
Among the raft of changes it was the shock decision to include Darlow ahead of Elliot, who had started every one of the club’s 13 league games this season but drops to the bench against the Baggies, which had the Toon Army up in arms for all the right reasons, the fans taking to Twitter to celebrate his return to the starting XI.
Here, Football Insider has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ best tweets:
Darlow was unlucky not to start the year as number 1 and Mbemba has had a solid year. Can't say they don't deserve a chance.

Glad to see Mbemba back in. Gives us much needed quality on the pitch. Pleased to see Darlow too. Better than Elliot for me.

Elliott deserved to b dropped over recent performances. Darlow is more commanding. Reverting bac to the system nd players that were successful in early part of season seems sensible. #nufc

Plus good to see Darlow get a chance was great last season even if champ is not like Prem League

Made up to see Mbemba and Darlow back in the fold. Obviously, Mitrovic seemingly stuck on the bench until the 78th minute is annoying. I trust Rafa tonight though, made up he's hooked players performing way below what they should. Come on @NUFC!

Dropping Shelvey is a surprise. Bringing back Mbemba is a good move and I think Darlow is a better keeper than Elliott although neither inspires confidence

Darlow’s only appearance of the season came in the 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the League Cup earlier this season, the 27-year-old handed the captain’s armband.
His last league outing was last season in a 3-1 defeat away at Ipswich in the Championship, with Elliot, who had returned from a serious injury, usurping his goalkeeping counterpart for the final three games of the campaign and retaining his place on their return to the Premier League.
