Newcastle United fans have called on the club to activate the reported £4million release clause in Martin Dubravka’s contract after his brilliant debut performance in their team’s 1-0 Premier League win against Manchester United on Sunday.
The goalkeeper, 29, was signed on loan from Sparta Prague in the January transfer window after Rafael Benitez managed to push through a deadline day deal.
Dubravka has made an excellent start to his Magpies career after taking the No1 jersey from Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot at St James’ Park.
He was outstanding against United, making a series of excellent reflex saves as well as commanding his penalty area.
The Mail have reported that Newcastle have the option to make Dubravka’s loan a permanent deal in the summer, which was further emphasis by club legend Alan Shearer in his Match of the Day analysis of the match on Sunday night.
The Toon faithful took to social media en masse to call upon the club to sign up the nine-times Slovakia international to a permanent deal.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Can’t wait for Martin Dubravka to keep another 11 clean sheets this season only for Ashley to refuse to stump up the £4m to sign him.

So apparently #NUFC have the option to buy Dubravka permanently at the end of the season for £4m. I wonder if Kennedy has an option also? I’d happily have both if we survive ????????????????????

I was wondering if we had an option to buy mid way through the second half. Based on todays performance he’s worth £50m so that £4m looks canny. #nufc

The Magpies’ win against Man United lifted them to 13th in the Premier League table, five places and two points above the drop zone.
It was their first triumph against the Premier League’s second placed club in five years.
In other Newcastle United news, Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has claimed that one Toon player was an “absolute joy to watch” in their triumph against Man United.
