Newcastle fans will ‘love’ this update on Bruno Guimaraes’ future

Newcastle United have endured a frustrating start to the season so far as their Premier League form have failed to match their performances in Europe.

Eddie Howe’s side beat Benfica 3-0 in the Champions League on 21 October, and they have now won two of their opening three European clashes.

However, their domestic form has been less impressive, with just two wins from their eight Premier League games so far and no away win since April.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Newcastle’s struggles are a result of their chaotic transfer window where Alexander Isak forced a move to Liverpool.

As a result, efforts are being made to tie their best players down to new long-term contracts to avoid a similar situation to the one they were in with Isak.

Newcastle planning Bruno Guimaraes contract talks

Chief among the players in line for new contracts at Newcastle is Bruno Guimaraes, and the Magpies are keen to reward him for his loyalty and performances.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, while there is no rush to agree terms, plans are being put in place to extend Guimaraes’ contract at St James Park and talks will be held with his representatives.

Meanwhile, the Brazil international is believed to be happy at committed to Newcastle and would be happy to extend his stay in the North East.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Yeah, I think it would be ideal for Newcastle if they could tie down Bruno to a new deal.

“It does seem that Bruno is happy and committed to Newcastle.

“Obviously he’s such a popular figure with the Newcastle fans as well that they would love to see Bruno extend his stay at the club.

“I think there’ll be a willingness probably from all parties to sit down and discuss a new deal.

“I’m sure at some point in the near future, will be talks held with Bruno and his people to see if they can agree a new deal.

“There’s no massive rush just yet, though, he’s under contract until 2028.”

Newcastle are now lining up contract talks with a number of key players to extend their spells at St James’ Park and keep Howe’s squad as strong as possible.

Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento updates at Newcastle

Guimaraes is not the only star player who has been subject to contract talks, after Sandro Tonali put pen to paper on a new deal at Newcastle United.

This came after Mick Brown told Football Insider that Newcastle were in talks with Tonali over a new deal, and it has since been revealed an extension was signed during his betting ban.

It is understood that the 25-year-old has secured his future until 2029, with the option of an additional year, and fans are overjoyed by the news coming out of St James’ Park.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider on 19 October that Tino Livramento could sign a new contract despite currently being sidelined with an injury.

Livramento was stretchered off against Arsenal, and while there were concerns he may have suffered a significant blow, there are no long-term concerns about his fitness.
