Newcastle forward Yoane Wissa sends message as transfer officially announced

Yoane Wissa has sent a message after Sergio Reguilon’s arrival at MLS club Inter Miami was officially confirmed on Monday.

Newcastle United signed Wissa from Brentford in the summer, with injuries forcing the striker to wait for his debut.

The DR Congo international was struck down with a knee injury just days after his arrival at St James’ Park, but he has now finally returned to action.

Wissa returned to the bench against Burnley at the start of the month, and made his Champions League debut against Bayer Leverkusen last week.

The 29-year-old came off the bench on Sunday, but could not prevent Sunderland’s 1-0 win over Newcastle in the Tyne-Wear derby.

Yoane Wissa applauds Sergio Reguilon as agreement reached

Reguilon was linked with a move to Everton in September, with the Toffees left short in defensive areas despite a busy summer.

But a move never materialised, with the Spaniard forced to look elsewhere in his search for a new home.

The defender left Tottenham at the end of his contract in the summer, after loan spells at Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Brentford had not resulted in a permanent move.

Reguilon had enjoyed a promising start to his career in the Premier League, but his defensive lapses would ultimately see him fall out of favour in North London.

Now, however, the former Spain international has found a new opportunity with MLS side Inter Miami.

The David Beckham co-owned club have only existed for eight years, but won the MLS Cup for the first time this month, completing a dramatic rise to the top.

Reguilon will join stars such as Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at the Chase Stadium, and is expected to replace the retiring Jordi Alba.

Wissa commented with clapping emojis following the official announcement of the transfer, with the pair’s paths having crossed at Brentford.

Newcastle United receive Wissa boost after international snub

Eddie Howe would have dreaded the oncoming Africa Cup of Nations, which threatened to take Wissa away just as the striker finally returned.

DR Congo will play at the tournament, and have plucked the likes of Sunderland‘s Noah Sadiki and West Ham‘s Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

In a huge boost to the Magpies, however, Wissa has been left out of the squad that will travel to Morocco, with his return from injury prioritised.

The former Brentford striker and Nick Woltemade are expected to form a formidable front two once both players are fit and firing.
