Newcastle handed Sandro Tonali boost as new details emerge amid contract uncertainty
Sandro Tonali’s future at Newcastle has been thrown into doubt in recent days despite his contract at the club being set to run until 2029.
Sandro Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023, and he has impressed for the club in the last two years despite serving a 10-month ban for breaching betting regulations.
The 25-year-old featured 45 times last term as the Magpies finished fifth in the top-flight, and has continued to be a key man this season with three assists in 14 appearances so far.
Shock reports recently emerged that Tonali had secretly signed a new Newcastle contract until 2029 last year due to the club’s support of him during his ban.
Tonali recently admitted that it is “tough” to predict where his long-term future lies, prompting many supporters to worry about potential terms within his new deal that could see him leave the club sooner rather than later.

Tonali does not have a release clause in his new Newcastle contract
Reports of Juventus’ interest in Tonali emerged in August as doubts remained over his future, but those were put to bed for the time being upon news of his fresh terms already being signed in 2024.
His latest comments have caused some concern with the Magpies fanbase, but Sky Sports’ Keith Downie (7 November) has revealed that Tonali does not have any kind of release clause in his current Newcastle contract.
The extension that he signed last year until 2029, plus a one-year option, is as secure as can be from the Tyneside outfit’s point of view, with no club able to prise him from their grasp unless they want to pay a huge amount.
The 25-year-old was certainly reluctant to say that he will still be playing for Newcastle in ten years time in a recent interview, as he cited Alexander Isak’s summer saga before he joined Liverpool, but did admit that he is “happy” and has not had thoughts of leaving.
What Eddie Howe has said about Tonali’s future
Howe will have been understandably ecstatic to tie Tonali down to a new deal in secret last year, and he spoke publicly on the matter when it was finally revealed last month.
The Magpies boss has formed one of the best midfields in the Premier League in him, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton, and was full of praise for the Italy international’s professionalism and importance to the team.
He said: “A lot happened around the time he was banned; a lot of discussions were had. Sandro has felt the love with everyone connected with the football club.
“He felt that love and support and needed it at the time. He has been brilliant for us. Sandro is happy, he is enjoying his football, he is integral to the team.”
