Finance guru: Newcastle plotting ‘next big appointment’ after new chief revealed
Newcastle United will already have turned their attention to who is going to be the next permanent chairman of the Premier League.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Peter McCormick’s appointment as interim chair.
The 69-year-old executive was announced last Thursday (13 January) and will begin work when Gary Hoffman steps aside on 1 February.

Hoffman resigned amid a backlash from top-flight clubs over the league’s handling of the £305million Newcastle takeover in October (2021).
McCormick is a former lawyer, vice chairman of the FA, and was previously interim chair of the Premier League between 2014 and 2015
His appointment was backed by all 20 Premier League clubs.
Plumley argues that McCormick is a “safe pair of hands” while the league searches for its next permanent top official.
“The next permanent deal will be the big thing they’re looking at,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“Right now, McCormick is a safe pair of hands who had been there and done it before.
“He has experience working with the FA and he’ll have close connections with the clubs. So it’s no surprise to see the likes of Newcastle backing it.
“The next big question, the one that will likely be significant for Newcastle, is who is going to be next? They’re looking at that next big appointment.”

The Newcastle takeover by the Saudi Public Investment Fund has led the Premier League to set limits on related party transactions.
The new regime have made Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood their first new signings as they look to stave off relegation.
