Newcastle hit by ‘huge loss’ of Tino Livramento, journalist shares ACL update

Newcastle United have been left sweating over the fitness of Tino Livramento after the defender was stretchered off in their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

The Magpies had been leading 1-0 thanks to Nick Woltemade’s towering header, but late goals from Mikel Merino and Gabriel Magalhaes sealed a win for Arsenal on 28 September.

Mikel Arteta’s men are now just two points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, whereas Newcastle sit just 15th, having managed just one win in six top-flight attempts.

Former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee Keith Hackett exclusively told Football Insider that he was astounded that Arsenal didn’t win a penalty when Nick Pope brought down Viktor Gyokeres in the first half.

Tino Livramento appears to escape ACL repeat despite injury concern vs Arsenal

Gunners ace Bukayo Saka revealed he was left speechless following VAR’s decision not to award Gyokeres a penalty.

Meanwhile, Newcastle supporters and boss Eddie Howe were left with their hearts in their mouths when Livramento left the pitch on a stretcher in the 77th minute and was replaced by Jamaal Lascelles.

However, reporting via X on 28 September, the Daily Telegraph’s Luke Edwards wrote: “It doesn’t sound like Tino Livramento has suffered another ACL injury, which is a relief. Will know more later this week, but he’s likely to be out for a while, whatever it is. Huge loss.

Have to wait for scans etc but fingers crossed he gets some semblance of good news.”

In previous seasons, ACL injuries have heavily affected the careers of stars like Michael Owen and Lascelles.

Tino Livramento setback weakens Newcastle despite silver lining

Should Livramento avoid a repeat of his previous ACL injury, Newcastle will be relieved, as the 22-year-old is a talented fullback who has what it takes to perform in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Livramento was injured against Arsenal

Magpies boss Eddie Howe revealed he was concerned by Livramento’s injury against Arsenal, because the England international is a key player at St James’ Park.

The former Southampton star’s setback means that Newcastle will be more reliant on Kieran Trippier, who could struggle to deal with fixture congestion in the long run at the age of 35.

Losing the versatile Livramento also weakens Howe’s options at left-back, while the 22-year-old boasts attacking qualities on either side of the backline.

Amid the England man’s setback, Newcastle are preparing for their away trip to Union St Gilloise in the Champions League on Wednesday, 1 October.

Earning a win in Belgium is vital for a Magpies outfit who lost to Barcelona in the opening game of their European campaign.
