Newcastle in hunt to sign PL forward from bottom-half rivals as Benitez frustration grows - report

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is getting increasingly frustrated with Chelsea “dragging their heels” over Kenedy and has turned his attention to Bournemouth ace Junior Stanislas, according to a report.
The Mirror claimed in their live transfer blog on Sunday [01:28pm] that the Magpies are now in the hunt to sign Stanislas, 28, as Benitez grows desperate to bolster his attacking force during the January transfer window.
It is understood that Benitez has also looked at Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings, but has is now keen on Stanislas, who has played a bit-part role at Bournemouth this season due to injury.
The former West Ham and Burnley forward has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal and supplying two assists in the process.
The wide-forward can play on either wing or as a striker, so his versatility may come in very handy to Benitez.
Bournemouth are one of Newcastle’s nearest rivals in the bottom-half of the Premier League this season.
The Magpies are 15th, two points behind the 12th-placed Cherries.
Football Insider verdict
Newcastle have barely any transfer funds, barely any interest in their players and a squad barely of Premier League quality. There is no way that Stanislas would be an improvement on the current first-team options that Benitez has but he will be a good fit for some extra depth. Kenedy has been linked to Newcastle ever since the summer with Benitez perhaps seeing the Brazilian’s ability to play at left-back as a big reason to go out and sign him on loan. Stanislas can’t do that but what he can do it play on both wings or as a striker, so his versatility could be very useful if injuries and suspensions pile up. He would be a very underwhelming signing though.
