Newcastle in hunt to sign rapid forward eager to quit, top-four club willing to sell - report
Newcastle United are in the hunt to sign KAA Gent forward Moses Simon, according to a report.
Belgian newspaper HLN claims that Simon, 22, is on Rafa Benitez’s wishlist for the summer and a scout was deployed to watch the Nigeria international in action against Anderlecht at the weekend.
It is understood that Simon wants to quit Gent in order to move to the Premier League and the Belgian Jupiler League club, who finished fourth in the regular season table, are willing to sell as long as it is at the right price.
The rapid wide-forward known for his pace has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season for Gent, scoring five goals and supplying two assists.
HLN adds that Simon is aware of interest in him after a strong season with Gent and that interest may intensify if he has a good World Cup with Nigeria in the summer with a spot on the plane to Russia looking likely.

Simon would be a great addition for the Magpies in the summer, but only if they do not decide to try and sign Kenedy on a permanent basis. Benitez’s squad is already very well stocked in the wide areas so unless two or three players leave then it’s fair to say that area of the squad should not be a priority. The defence and centre-forward areas should surely be of top concern for the Magpies boss, who will also likely need to sign a goalkeeper if Martin Dubravka does not stay as well. Mike Ashley needs to supply the funding for Newcastle to have a good summer.
