Newcastle in talks for Edmund Baidoo transfer, he has already terrorised Aston Villa this season
Newcastle United are in talks with Red Bull Salzburg over the possibility of a deal to sign their star winger Edmund Baidoo.
According to Africa Foot, the Premier League giants have launched an enquiry over the 20-year-old in recent days and have found Salzburg to be “very attentive” to their advances, with discussions between the two clubs now ongoing.
Baidoo’s departure from the Austrian side “is not excluded” at the end of the season, and Newcastle are set to be “ready” to meet their asking price of around £8.6million (€10m) for the 20-year-old starlet.
The Magpies have not yet progressed to the point of discussing personal terms with the player and his entourage, but their interest in Baidoo is very clear, and it has not been met with much resistance so far.
The 20-year-old already has five goals and two assists from just 18 games in the Austrian Bundesliga so far this season, and he is also on the radar of Borussia Dortmund.
Edmund Baidoo has already caused Aston Villa problems this season
Baidoo has taken on an increasingly important role for Salzburg since he arrived from Norwegian second tier side Sogndal in the summer of 2024, and his game has hit new heights this season.
The Ghanaian has been a hugely influential figure for his team so far in 2025-26, while star striker Petar Ratkov is the only member of his team to currently have more goal contributions in the league, although he has since left for Lazio.
Baidoo has also gained invaluable experience in both the Europa League and the Champions League qualifying rounds this term, as he has hit the big European stage for the first time.
Aston Villa are already aware of the threat that he can provide, after Baidoo was part of the Salzburg side that terrorised them in the first half of their clash at Villa Park on 29 January.
Baidoo set up Karim Konate’s opener in the West Midlands on that night, as Salzburg raced into a two-goal lead before the 50th minute, and looked set to stun their Premier League hosts away from home.
| Stats | Baidoo Total |
| Minutes | 73 |
| Goals + Assists | 1 |
| Chances Created | 3 |
| Shots on Target | 2 |
| Successful Dribbles | 2/2 (100%) |
Villa eventually battled back to secure a 3-2 victory, but Baidoo’s performance would have left a lasting impression, as he completed 100 per cent of his dribbles and also created more chances than anyone else on the pitch.
That display has already shown that he is capable of competing with Premier League players, and it is sure to have had Eddie Howe and Newcastle licking their lips.
Newcastle target has already had Bournemouth seal of approval
Bournemouth have gained a reputation for being one of the Premier League’s shrewdest operators in the transfer market in recent years.

With that in mind, Newcastle will surely be delighted to see that Baidoo has already received the seal of approval from the Cherries as a player of interest previously.
According to Sports World Ghana, the South Coast outfit briefly considered a last-minute move for the youngster in the final stages of the January transfer window, but ultimately opted against taking their interest any further.
Bournemouth appear to have unearthed another attacking gem in Rayan in recent weeks, and with that in mind, the fact that they consider Baidoo to be worthy of being on their radar is surely another green flag for Newcastle in their pursuit.
