Newcastle jet out on international transfer mission for top flight flyer - report
Newcastle United have sent a scouting team out to Turkey to watch over the performance of Garry Rodrigues for Galatasaray in their clash against Bursaspor on Friday, according to a report.
Turkish publication Milliyet claim on their website that the Magpies will have representatives in place to monitor the 27-year-old Cape Verde international winger, having been linked with a move for his signing in recent weeks.
It is said that they will be joined at the Turkish top flight clash by a number of European clubs, including Sevilla, Lyon and Fiorentina, in keeping tabs on the versatile speed machine, with Rodrigues having appeared 26 times across all competitions for Galatasaray this season, scoring five goals and chipping in with seven assists.
Football Insider verdict
Newcastle have been heavily linked with Rodrigues and it appears as though he could well be one of their top targets going into the summer window. Obviously they will be preparing a number of options dependant on whether they secure their Premier League place next season, as well as the possibility of a takeover at the end of the campaign, but the fact they are keeping such a close eye on the winger suggests they will be ready to swoop once both of those scenarios have been sorted out. It does seem to suggest that Kenedy is only at Newcastle until the end of the season, which would have been expected, but will still come as a disappointment after his bright displays down the flanks. That leaves Matt Ritchie, Christian Atsu and Jacob Murphy, so a new addition would probably be the maximum Benitez wants in his squad.
