Newcastle United have joined the hunt to sign Fulham defender Ryan Fredericks, according to a report.
Regional newspaper the Chronicle claims that the Magpies have entered the running for the 25-year-old alongside West Ham and Crystal Palace.
It is understood that the right-back is available this summer when his contract at Craven Cottage expires, but he is hoping to remain with Fulham after achieving Championship promotion with them and is waiting for a new contract offer.
The report details that Newcastle are keen to add a new full-back to their ranks this summer to compete with right-sided defender DeAndre Yedlin next year.
Football Insider verdict:
Fredericks has played a key role in Fulham’s promotion in the Championship this season and he managed nine assists across all competitions from defence. The Englishman is an attack-minded player renowned for his brilliant crossing and also he’s got blistering pace in his locker. He certainly looks good enough to make the jump up to the top flight next year and could provide stiff competition for Yedlin at right-back. However, some Newcastle supporters may be hoping for more marquee additions during the summer and want the club to show some real ambition as they look to establish themselves back in the Premier League on a permanent basis. Fredericks is a modern-day full-back that does have great potential and snapping him up on a free transfer seems like a no-brainer. Fulham will surely want to tie him down after his integral role this season and he is absolutely crucial to their attacking style when he bombs forward into the final third.
