‘Newcastle lining up late-window signing after new whispers & duo to leave’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Newcastle have targets lined up for the last days of the window but need to sell Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly to make deals happen.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the Magpies will not have room for incomings under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) without moving senior players on in this window.

Almiron is widely linked with a late move to former side Atlanta United before the close of the mid-season transfer window on 3 February.

He has not been a regular for Eddie Howe’s side in recent seasons and the 30-year-old is set to return to the US.

Football Insider revealed last month (31 December) that the Magpies are targeting a new right-sided winger to replace the Paraguay international.

Centre-back Lloyd Kelly has also been linked with a potential exit with Fenerbahce and Juventus among the sides interested.

Wyness claimed Newcastle could run out of time to make signings of their own in this window as they rely on sales.

Kelly and Almiron exits needed for Newcastle incomings, says Wyness

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’ll be about the timing of the Almiron deal.

“I know Atlanta in the MLS are keen to get it done, there’s rumours of £9-10million offers.

“Together with a potential deal for Lloyd Kelly, that would give them some room under PSR.

“I know they’ve got targets lined up, so they’ll be ready to move quickly if those two deals happen.

“We’re getting close to the window, so there’s not much time to make it happen and it’s getting tight for Newcastle.”
