Newcastle must forget Dean Henderson and sign ‘unbelievable’ keeper for ‘next to nothing’ – pundit
Newcastle United should sign Nick Pope for “next to nothing” instead of Dean Henderson.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ transfer plans.
According to the Manchester Evening News (17 May), Newcastle are considering a move for Henderson as they look to enhance their squad ahead of next season – with the former Sheffield United loan star reportedly “desperate” to exit Man United.

However, Kenny insists Eddie Howe’s side should be looking to sign Pope instead.
“If I was going to sign anyone for a big fee, it would be Pope at Burnley,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Pope is older than someone like Dean Henderson but all that means is Pope is in his prime.
“Pope has been unbelievable recently, I really do rate him.
“He would also be a lot cheaper than Henderson. I think Pope could be signed for next to nothing.
“Burnley need to sell and Pope won’t want to stay. They can get that deal done.
“He will be safe hands for the next couple of seasons and he adds a bit of depth there even if Dubravka stays on.
“It’s a no brainer for me.”

Pope played against Newcastle on the final day of the season (22 May) though he was unable to help his side win.
He has made 155 appearances for the club since joining in 2016.
