Newcastle player ratings v Arsenal: Magpies mainstay brilliant with 9/10 display

Newcastle United took another step closer to Premier League survival with a 2-1 victory over Arsenal on Sunday.

The Magpies came into the clash looking to continue their hot streak of form, having picked up three successive victories over Southampton, Huddersfield Town and Leicester City, with Rafael Benitez choosing to name an unchanged side.

The Gunners meanwhile travelled to Tyneside after a gruelling trip to take on CSKA Moscow in midweek, and were hoping to keep up their impressive domination over Newcastle, with the north east side having failed to pick up a win against Arsene Wenger’s men since 2010, a streak which includes eight successive defeats.

Alexandre Lacazette drew first blood for the visitors, poking home from a blistering counter attack driven by Pierre-Emerick Aubemeyang, but Ayoze Perez managed to turn home to ensure the sides went in half time level.

The Spaniard turned from scorer to provider, his flick setting up Matt Ritchie to give the Magpies the lead, and it proved to be the match winner.
