Newcastle player ratings in defeat v Chelsea: Speed machine shines in 7/10 display

Newcastle United were comprehensively beaten by Chelsea in their clash at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The Magpies came into the match off the back of a 2-2 draw against West Brom in midweek, which extended their winless run to five games after a four match losing streak.

They were unable to pick up anything against Antonio Conte’s side, with the third placed side dominating for much of the game.

The Magpies did make the brighter start of the two sides, and found themselves 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Dwight Gayle, poking home into an empty net after Thibaut Courtois had saved a Jacob Murphy effort.

However by half time they were 2-1 down, Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata netting to turn the game in favour of the home side.

Newcastle managed to see out much of the second half without conceding, before Matt Ritchie’s foul on Victor Moses provided Hazard the chance to double his tally from the penalty spot, confidently chipping the ball past Karl Darlow between the sticks.

So how did the Magpies’ players get on?

Here, Football Insider has analysed and rated each of them, with one man shining above his team mates with a 7/10 display.
