In Jonjo Shelvey’s absence, it is the Scottish international who has taken over set piece duties and time after again his deliveries threatened the Stoke defence, with the pressure finally paying off for Lascelles’ winner.

However he also demonstrated his ability from open play with an excellent cross which cut Stoke’s defence apart and gave Christian Atsu the opportunity to open the scoring.

Well supported by DeAndre Yedlin down the right side, his defensive effort was crucial in preventing a number of Stoke attacks, and continues to show that he has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League. Man of the Match.
