Newcastle respond as Juventus make Lloyd Kelly move
Newcastle are reluctant to accept offers for defender Lloyd Kelly this month, sources have told Football Insider.
Kelly, 26, only joined the Magpies on a free transfer after the expiry of his Bournemouth contract last summer (2024).
But despite the prospect of banking a huge profit on Kelly with Juventus now joining Turkish side Fenerbahce in the race for his signature – Newcastle are hoping to keep hold of the defender.
He remains a key part of Eddie Howe’s side despite his lack of game time amid a return to action for Sven Botman after his lengthy layoff with a serious knee injury.
Newcastle would have to consider a huge-money offer for the Bristol-born ace if it arrives – but would replace him with a new centre-back if he departs before the 3 February deadline.
Kelly has made 13 appearances across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign.
He has started in just seven of those outings and has completed the full 90 minutes on just four occasions.

The 26-year-old signed a contract running until June 2029 upon his arrival at St James’ Park last year (2024).
Kelly is a versatile option for Howe and Newcastle due to his experience at left-back as well as centre-back.

The Magpies sit fifth in the Premier League after their nine-game winning run was brought to an end by Bournemouth on Saturday (18 January).
Howe’s side are next in action against bottom club Southampton this weekend (25 January).
