Newcastle to seal shock forward signing after fee settled - report
By Harry Sykes
Newcastle are poised to make Chelsea winger Christian Atsu their first summer signing, according to a report.
The Sun claim the north-east giants have informed the new Premier League champions during negotiations they are willing to take up their option to buy the wide man, 25, on a permanent deal.
It is said that Newcastle will activate the £6.2million option and convert the wide forward’s loan into a permanent transfer.
The 53-times Ghana international has had a mixed season for Rafael Benitez’s side, scoring five goals and assisting three more in his 32 Championship appearances.
But only 15 of those appearances have come as a starter, with his league game time amounting to just 1,567 minutes.

Predominantly a right-winger but also capable of playing on the left, Atsu would be a shock signing given the fee and the fact that he has been unable to nail down a regular starting role in Rafael Benitez’s side even in the Championship.
Atsu has one year remaining on his contract at Chelsea but it appears he will leave the club without ever making a first-team appearance for them.
The speed machine has spent the last four seasons out on loan after joining the Premier League giants in the summer of 2013.
In other Newcastle United transfer news, the club have hijacked Everton’s move for a coveted 23-year-old, with a £75,000-a-week contract to be offered.
