‘Newcastle selling two first-XI stars with upgrades coming in’

Newcastle United are ready to kick off their summer transfer business after securing money-spinning qualification for the Champions League.

The Magpies have been restricted in the market by Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) in recent seasons but are now set to loosen the pursestrings.

Eddie Howe‘s side finished fifth in the Premier League table on goal difference ahead of Aston Villa – with the English boss also delivering silverware in the League Cup this term.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted he expects Newcastle to actually sell “one or two” first-team stars now they have the money to fund suitable upgrades.

Newcastle tipped to strengthen throughout their side this summer

Sean Longstaff, Kieran Trippier, Lewis Miley, Nick Pope and more are among the lower-profile names to be linked with moves ahead of the summer window – which opens on 1 June.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness said he expects Newcastle to strengthen in every area of their squad as they look to go to a new level.

The Magpies previously qualified for the Champions League but were eliminated in the group stage last term – before slumping to a seventh-place finish.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I can still see one or two players leaving, but they’ve already got the money for a good window.

“They’ve already got the headroom to sign quality players to strengthen across the squad.

“I think we’ll see a forward leaving but one coming in to replace him, they’ll strengthen in midfield and in defence. They’ve got the money available to do that.

“It’s a much different situation from a club like Man United.

“They are very well placed to get the quality of player they want without running into any issues with PSR next season or beyond that.”

Newcastle plot Kudus raid

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (28 May) that Newcastle are looking closely at West Ham star Mohammed Kudus.

Kudus, 24, features high on the shortlist at Newcastle and they are now exploring a potential swoop for the West Ham star.

The Magpies are prioritising a move for a new right-winger this summer despite the form of Jacob Murphy.
