‘Newcastle set for Lewis Miley decision with Conor Gallagher framework agreed in principle’

Lewis Miley’s future could soon be decided, with Newcastle United working on a deal to sign Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid.

Miley is a product of the Magpies’ youth system and enjoyed a brilliant rise during the 2023/24 season, making 26 appearances across all competitions.

The England youth international starred against the likes of PSG and AC Milan in the Champions League, while he also scored his first Premier League goal in a 3-0 win over Fulham.

But more recently, injuries have slowed his development, with Miley limited to just 304 minutes in the Premier League last season.

Conor Gallagher move could force out Lewis Miley

Still only 19 years old, Miley undoubtedly has a big future in the game. However, it might be the right moment for the 18-time England youth international to find a new home.

Indeed, Miley has been linked with a move away from St. James’ Park numerous times in recent months, with Newcastle perhaps needing a big homegrown sale to help their PSR position.

A move away could now accelerate following the news that Newcastle are pushing to sign Gallagher this summer.

The England international is seen as an important figure at Atletico Madrid, who he joined from Chelsea in the summer of 2024.

But the Spanish giants remain open to selling Gallagher for the right price and on Sunday, Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Atletico would consider selling the midfielder for £50million.

The arrival of Gallagher would only make minutes harder to come by for Miley, while the fee would further increase Newcastle’s need to balance the books.

Eddie Howe also targeting defensive reinforcements

Gallagher isn’t the only player targeted this summer by Newcastle, who are looking to bolster their squad for a return to the Champions League.

Eddie Howe is seemingly also targeting defensive reinforcements, with recent reports linking him with Atalanta centre-back Giorgio Scalvini.

It’s thought Sandro Tonali has spoken glowingly of life at St. James’ Park in a bid to try and convince his compatriot to join him on Tyneside.

21 years old, Scalvini is one of the top young defenders in Europe and already has eight caps for Italy — a total that would have been higher had he not suffered an ACL injury prior to Euro 2024.
