‘Newcastle set to make Tino Livramento decision as Savona interest intensifies’

Newcastle United are set to make a big decision on the future of Tino Livramento following the latest update.

Livramento established himself as a key player for Eddie Howe last season, clocking up 2,842 minutes in the Premier League and playing 45 times across all competitions.

That form has seen the 22-year-old rewarded with his senior England debut, playing the full 90 minutes in a 5-0 thrashing of the Republic of Ireland in the Uefa Nations League in November.

However, it has also brought serious interest from Manchester City, who are on the lookout for a new right-back after Kyle Walker permanently left the club to join Burnley.

Newcastle make Savona approach

Newcastle are currently being linked with a new right-back of their own.

According to Sky Sports (17 July), the Magpies are ‘considering an approach’ for Juventus star Nicolo Savona.

The 22-year-old has 40 senior games under his belt for the Old Lady to date, including playing 221 minutes across three appearances at the recent Club World Cup.

His form at club level saw him called up by the senior Italian national team for Uefa Nations League matches in November, though he is yet to make his debut.

But despite all the positives, Savona has suffered with ankle, thigh and adductor injuries over the last year.

Savona deal could open the door to Livramento exit

Newcastle do need to future-proof their depth at right-back, with Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth 34 and 30 years old, respectively.

What’s more, each only has a year to run on their contracts at St. James’ Park.

However, Newcastle fans should be worried that a move for Savona opens the door to Livramento leaving the club.

In fact, Sky Sport Italia pundit Gianluca Di Marzio recently stated (17 July) that the Magpies would only pursue a deal for Savona if Livramento leaves for Manchester City first.

Man City’s interest in Livramento hasn’t stolen the headlines more recently, but these reports suggest there is something bubbling under the surface between the two clubs.

Optimism is high around Newcastle United after they ended their long trophy drought by winning the EFL Cup and qualified for the Champions League.

Losing a key player like Livramento would only serve to damage that positive feeling.
