Newcastle stars in line to quit amid Bruno Guimaraes ‘huge surprise’ update

Bruno Guimaraes is highly unlikely to push for a move away from Newcastle United this summer even if they miss out on Champions League qualification.

This comes amid claims that Newcastle could lose key players if they fail to reach Europe’s premier competition after what has been a dismal league season so far.

Eddie Howe’s side lost 3-2 to Brentford last time out and now sit 12th in the Premier League table after 25 games, ten points shy of Chelsea in fifth.

However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Guimaraes is unlikely to be among those angling for a move this summer.

The 28-year-old has a great relationship with the supporters at St James’ Park, loves the club and has no plans to leave in the near future regardless of their leave position.

Bruno Guimaraes plans to stay at Newcastle

Football Insider warned on 7 February that Sandro Tonali could quit Newcastle if they fail to qualify for the Champions League amid interest from Arsenal and Man City.

Guimaraes is also expected to field interest from other clubs, having also been a long-term target for the likes of City, but will not push to leave Newcastle this summer.

Newcastle could lose players if they aren’t in the Champions League,” Brown told Football Insider.

“But it would be a huge surprise if Bruno Guimaraes was one of those players.

“He’s held in such high regard there, he’s got a great relationship with the supporters and he’s the captain there which holds a lot of weight.

“I’m told he’s happy and enjoying life at Newcastle, so I can’t see a world in which he pushes to leave the club regardless of what happens.

“He’s still one of their most important players and even if things haven’t gone well so far this season he strikes me as the sort who will work hard to turn things around.

“Even if other players might look to move on if they’re not in Europe or whatever, I expect him to stay and help them get back to the top level.”

Eddie Howe sack update emerges at Newcastle

The Newcastle players are not the only ones whose futures are up in the air as a result of what has been a poor season, with questions being asked about Howe.

Football Insider revealed on 9 February that Newcastle have no plans to sack Howe any time soon, and hope he will be able to turn around their recent form.

The 48-year-old has plenty of credit in the bank after what has largely been a successful tenure at St James’ Park and retains the club’s backing.

Newcastle were beaten at home by Brentford, leading to unrest from the home supporters after the full-time whistle, but the club are not expect to act.

They are reluctant to make any knee-jerk decisions over the managers future and instead are throwing their weight behind Howe to turns things around.
