Jacob Murphy – 4
The big money signing of the summer, with a reported fee of £12million, former Norwich City man Murphy is yet to live up to his price tag.
With Matt Ritchie and Christian Atsu already established in the starting XI, it was always going to be a tough ask for the youngster to break in immediately, but fans will have been disappointed with his contribution when given the chance.
His first start came in the League Cup defeat at home against Nottingham Forest, as he failed to break down the Championship opposition as would have been expected.
However, Benitez kept faith, and started the 22-year-old against Swansea in their Premier League clash.
However Murphy appeared to struggle with the physical aspect, as he was easily muscled off the ball time and again.
He is most definitely a work in progress, but he will have to show more than he has already if he is to stand a chance of breaking into the starting XI any time soon.
