Javier Manquillo – 7
Perhaps the most surprising acquisition of the summer came in the shape of former Atletico Madrid defender Javi Manquillo.
The Spanish full back had spent the season previous with Newcastle’s fierce rivals Sunderland, as the two sides swapped divisions.
However, his relegation with the Black Cats did not stop Benitez from keeping him in the North East, and he has proven to be quite the catch.
Starting at right back, the 23-year-old, who has also spent time on loan with Liverpool, had a solid, if unspectacular, beginning to his Newcastle career.
He helped keep clean sheets against West Ham and Swansea, and can consider himself unlucky to have lost his place in the starting XI against Stoke to DeAndre Yedlin.
A sensible signing from Benitez, fans will be hoping for more of the same.
