Newcastle tipped to win Darwin Nunez race after £49.3m update – ‘absolutely incredible’
Newcastle United can beat off top clubs to secure the signing of Darwin Nunez.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the in-form striker.
On Friday (15 April) FootMercato reported Newcastle have “offered more than” £49.3million for Nunez, 22.
The Benfica hitman has been in electric form this season, bagging 32 goals in 37 total outings.
On 30 March, 90min reported Tottenham and Man United are also interested in Nunez but Kenny insists Newcastle can pull the move off.
“Listen, Newcastle have the finances to do this,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It just depends how much they want that player. I do get that there are other clubs interested.
“Newcastle is a massive project now and anyone who goes there will be really excited.
“Playing at St James’ Park, when it’s rocking there is nothing else like it.
“Since the takeover it has been absolutely incredible. Any player would want to play there.
“It’s a massive pull. The only problem is it’s Newcastle, so it’s always freezing.
“I’m only joking. St James’ is such an exciting place to be at the moment if they stump up the money then I don’t see why Nunez would say no.”

Nunez has shot to prominence this season after only scoring six league goals during his debut campaign at Benfica.
His most recent strike came against Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday (13 April).
In other news, Kieran Trippier has been tipped for a Newcastle promotion thanks to a development ‘you can’t buy’.
