‘Newcastle to fear another Alexander Isak saga’ after Tino Livramento latest

Newcastle will be worried that Tino Livramento could soon force a move away from the club like Alexander Isak did after a new update on his contract situation.

Livramento has emerged as one of the best young full-backs in the world since his move to Newcastle from Southampton in 2023 for an initial £32million fee.

The 23-year-old’s strong showings in the last campaign saw him linked away from Tyneside, with Football Insider revealing in the summer that Man City were set to step up their interest in Livramento ahead of this season.

Livramento is happy at Newcastle and has remained at the club for now, but is yet to sign a new contract despite the club’s desire to tie him down to improved terms.

Football Insider have revealed that Man City remain front-runners to sign Livramento with his future on Tyneside uncertain, and the Magpies will be concerned that he could take after his old teammate Isak following a new update.

Livramento does not want to sign a new Newcastle contract until the end of the season

Livramento has impressed once again this season, when fit, with one assist across 14 appearances in all competitions so far.

He is set to continue as Eddie Howe‘s first-choice right-back if he remains out of the treatment room, but may not be at Newcastle for much longer after the Daily Mail revealed that Livramento is set to delay any decision on a new contract until the end of this season.

The report states that the England international’s camp want to wait and assess their options before committing to a new deal, but remain in close contact with Magpies sporting director Ross Wilson.

His current contract does not expire until 2028, but Newcastle want to extend his deal and hand him an improved package, given his form and constant links away.

City are known to have done extensive scouting work on Livramento and an approach is reportedly expected in 2026, hence there being a feeling that he is set to leave his options open for now.

Newcastle will fear Isak repeat as Livramento stalls talks

Newcastle’s summer transfer window was dominated by Isak’s saga, which saw him refuse to train or play for the club while demanding to be sold to Liverpool.

The situation caused fury among fans and friction among those inside the club, with owners PIF blaming Howe for their poor window and the Swede’s desire to leave.

It was a dramatic few months that no-one connected to the Magpies will want to see replicated ever again, certainly not in 2026, as Isak finally moved to Anfield on deadline day for £125m.

He may not have been a success at Liverpool so far, but Newcastle would certainly have loved to have kept Isak around considering how regularly he scored for them in the three years he was at the club.

A somewhat similar pattern could be emerging with Livramento, with this latest update certainly not a good sign for the Magpies regarding his future on Tyneside.

The fact that he has not signed a new contract yet shows that he is not 100 per cent committed to the club, and news of his camp now stalling talks could point to him being open to a move either next month or in the next summer window.

He will still have two years left to run on his contract regardless, and a club as ambitious as Newcastle will not want to let him leave for a direct Premier League rival, so another Isak situation may well be on the cards.
