Newcastle told to beat Arsenal to ‘brilliant’ Costa after confirmed contract news – pundit
Paul Robinson has urged Newcastle United to offer Diego Costa the chance to return to the Premier League after exiting Atletico Mineiro.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England number one said the 33-year-old would give the Magpies “hope” of survival as he is “a proven goalscorer at the highest level”.
On Instagram (17 January), Costa confirmed he had mutually terminated his contract with Atletico Mineiro after winning the Brazilian league title.
According to the Daily Mail (17 January), the ex-Chelsea striker has held informal talks with Arsenal over a potential move to the Emirates.
Robinson is adamant Newcastle should rival the Gunners for the free agent’s signature.
“If I was Newcastle I’d take him tomorrow,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“He is a proven goalscorer at the highest level. He has got an edge to him as well. He’s a fighter. That edge could get Newcastle out of trouble.
“Draws are no good for them at the moment. They need to win football matches and Costa is a match-winner. You try to take positives out of the game against Watford but there’s few.

“If you put a character like Diego Costa in that dressing room… Wow. All of a sudden the feeling in that dressing room could change. He’d give them hope.
“I’d take him straight away. The fans would love him up there. He’d be absolutely brilliant.”
