Newcastle transfer news: Significant Michael Olise update today
Newcastle United are set to miss out on leading transfer target Michael Olise this summer due to the ferocity of the competition for his signature.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed other clubs’ interest in Olise means he is very unlikely to play his football on Tyneside next season.
The 22-year-old winger has a £60m release clause in his Crystal Palace contract, which runs until 2027.
Amid the Magpies’ interest, Football Insider have revealed [21 June] that Chelsea are the frontrunners for his signature and are prepared to pay over the odds for their target.
French youth international Olise made a significant impact in the Premier League last season, firing 10 goals and claiming six assists.
Newcastle to miss out on Michael Olise
Eddie Howe is a huge admirer of Olise and would be keen to arrange a deal to bring him to Newcastle, but it appears the competition is too heavy.
Alongside Chelsea, Champions League competitors Bayern Munich have Olise on their radar.
Liverpool and Manchester City, also in Europe’s premier competition, are expected to indicate an interest.

Funds may clear for Newcastle in the coming weeks amid talks that Miguel Almiron is likely to head to Saudi Arabia – although as reported by Football Insider [18 June], the toughening of rules on business between associated parties could prove a stumbling block with a potential sale.
Newcastle may have to move onto other targets should Olise’s proposed move to Chelsea accelerate, with other rivals in position to pounce should the deal stall.
In other news, Newcastle United fans have had the same reaction about Everton following the Premier League fixture release.
