Newcastle triple injury blow confirmed for clash v Brighton
By Danny Wright
Rafa Benitez has confirmed that Newcastle United will be without a trio of defenders for Sunday’s trip to Brighton in the Premier League.
Left-backs Massadio Haidara and Paul Dummett are definitely out of action while Florian Lejeune is still awaiting a return to full fitness after picking up an injury on the opening day of the season.
The Magpies have been in good form as of late, winning all three of their last league matches while conceding just one goal in the process.
However it will still prove to be a blow for Benitez and his Magpies squad to be without the trio, two of which are likely to be nailed on first-team starters when they are back up to speed.
“It’s more or less the same situation with injuries. Lejeune is still having treatment and Haïdara and Dummett are not available,” said Benitez in his pre-match press conference on Friday, as quoted on Newcastle’s official Twitter account.

Newcastle suffered on transfer deadline day as they failed to bring in any of their reported left-back targets including Southampton’s Matt Targett and Chelsea’s Kennedy, but they have since proven that they have been able to manage with Chancel Mbemba filling the void.
Sunday’s clash with Brighton at the AMEX could see Newcastle extend their winning run to four games in-a-row against the team that came runners-up to them in the Championship last term.
In other Newcastle United news, fans have reacted on Twitter to the confirmation of an out of window transfer being completed by the club.
