Newcastle United backed to complete multiple ‘big’ signings after official club update – pundit

Newcastle United could qualify for European football this season after winning back-to-back games.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ form.

Newcastle United moved up to fifth in the Premier League after beating Brentford 5-1 on Saturday (8 October).

This was the Toon’s second impressive victory in as many games after they dispatched Fulham 4-1 last weekend (1 October).

In a letter recognising one year since the Saudi-backed takeover of the club (7 October), Newcastle’s chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan reiterated the club’s desire to “challenge for trophies both domestically and in Europe”.

Kenny insists Newcastle could qualify for Europe this season, helped by another big spend in January.

“I mean, why not?” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“At the end of the day, Newcastle have been playing really well this season. They have been playing better than their points total suggests.

“After the Fulham game they were seventh and that is Europe. The club wants to be there and it wants to be there as soon as possible.

“If they are around seventh or eighth by the time the World Cup starts then I can see them pushing in January to get the players over the line who will help them get there.

“European football is a great thing to be able to offer to those, sort of, big players so that could really help them out in January.”
