Newcastle United backed to sign Miguel Almiron replacement in January after ‘brilliant’ development – pundit
Newcastle United may still look to sign an upgrade on Miguel Almiron in January.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the winger’s future.
Almiron, 28, scored his fifth Premier League goal of the season as Newcastle beat Everton 1-0 on Wednesday (19 October).
The Paraguay star has started all of Newcastle’s games this season.
The Magpies only signed one attacker during the summer transfer window as Alexander Isak arrived in a club-record deal from Real Sociedad though he has only been able to make three appearances.
McManus claims Newcastle may still sing an attacker in January despite Almiron’s form.
“There are always upgrades to be made,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“Almiron is having a brilliant season, it’s whether he can keep it going. I hope that he can and I’m sure the fans are hoping that as well.
“We have never seen this side of the player before. But we know where Newcastle want to be and if they can find a more reliable player then maybe they will do that.
“It’s a possibility. I know they haven’t signed many attackers since the takeover went through, it’s all defenders. So maybe there is some work to do there.”

Almiron has now recorded his best-ever Premier League goal tally for a single season.
He has scored 19 goals in 134 games for Newcastle United.
