Newcastle United backed to sign three ‘proper stars’ in January after source’s PiF reveal – pundit
The owners of Newcastle United will heavily back Eddie Howe in January if his side has a genuine chance of qualifying for Europe.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ plans for the upcoming January window.
Newcastle United cemented their place in the top four with a commanding 4-0 win over Aston Villa at St James’ Park on Saturday (29 October).
On 27 October, sources told this site that Newcastle are prepared to invest in January with a new wide forward a priority for Eddie Howe.
McManus claims Newcastle could invest heavily if the ownership sees the club has a genuine chance of achieving European football for next season.
“I was just thinking about this the other day, if Newcastle are in the mix for Europe, which they are, the owners will back the manager,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“If Howe goes to them and asks for funds after what he has done in the first half of the season then I think he will get two or three good players in. Proper players, international stars.
“You add that to Saint-Maximin coming back, Isak has still barely played and when he has done he has scored.
“Add another attacker in there or more depth in the midfield and you are looking at a seriously strong Newcastle side.
The other thing is that every player they have signed has been excellent so you know whoever else comes in will also be of that high quality”

Newcastle’s new owners have invested heavily since their takeover in October 2021, with nine first-team players arriving across the two windows they have overseen.
The club also broke their transfer record to sign Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad.
In other news, sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle United are confident of agreeing a new £60m Bruno Guimaraes deal.
