Kieran Maguire: Newcastle can earn extraordinary '£30m per match' as Saudi plan revealed

Newcastle United can use pre-season tours of Saudi Arabia to supercharge their income to an extraordinary level instead of lucrative sponsorship deals.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest post-takeover developments on Tyneside.

Premier League clubs voted on 18 October to block Newcastle from signing off on related-party deals with businesses linked to the new owners.

That disqualifies the newly-minted club from striking exorbitant deals with Saudi PIF-associated companies that pay above the market rate.

As per Sky Sports on 21 October, Saudi finance minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan insisted there remains “plenty of opportunity” and that the plan is to pursue conventional sponsorship.

Newcastle are now the world’s richest club but are faced with the challenge of splashing the cash within financial fair play constraints.

Maguire claims that one solution is to organise money-spinning pre-season tours of Saudi Arabia

“If one route is closed, you try and explore alternative avenues,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“If you have to stop, say, a naming rights deal, what do you do next? You could go on a pre-season tour of Saudi Arabia and charge £30m per match.

“For every one rule, there is always another loophole. That is one of the first things you learn when you study law to any extent.

“I would be looking at alternative ways of funding the club if you can’t do it through the traditional routes, sponsorship and commercial arrangements.”
