Newcastle news: Finance guru shreds ‘really bad taste’ from Amanda Staveley after ‘totally unnecessary’ jibe
It was “totally unnecessary” for Newcastle United chief Amanda Staveley to comment on the Roman Abramovich situation at Chelsea.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Stavely’s defence of the Russian oligarch.
Abramovich has announced his intention to sell Chelsea after almost 20 years amid mounting scrutiny on Russian business in the United Kingdom.

Staveley told the Financial Times last Thursday (3 March) she was “sad” that Abramovich was being forced to sell up because of links to Vladimir Putin.
Staveley, who has faced similar scrutiny over Newcastle’s associations with the Saudi state, opined “this world is never not going to have problems.”
The Magpies co-owner was referencing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Plumley slammed the 48-year-old financier’s tone-deaf remarks.
“Whichever way you look at it, this was in really bad taste,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“It was just a poor comment delivered in completely the wrong way. It’s hard to say much more about it than that.
“It does you more harm than good if you put your foot in your mouth like that.
“It’s absolutely the wrong thing to say and she also simply doesn’t need to say it. It was totally unnecessary.”

Staveley has been the public face of Newcastle alongside Mehrdad Ghodoussi since the Saudi PIF’s £305million takeover in October last year.
The Premier League is reportedly considering introducing a human rights directive into its owners and directors’ test.
