Newcastle United deal for Renan Lodi ‘will get done’ as ‘unbelievable’ verdict issued – pundit

Newcastle United will sign Atletico Madrid defender Renan Lodi this summer thanks to Kieran Trippier.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the club’s summer plans.

Lodi, 24, and his representatives will meet with Newcastle later this week (starting 23 May) according to journalist Andre Hernan.

As per The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards on Tuesday (24 May), the chances of Matt Targett signing for Newcastle permanently have “dramatically decreased” since the end of the season.

This would leave Eddie Howe looking for a new starting left-back ahead of next season with Jamal Lewis not included in the 2021-22 Premier League squad for the second half of the season.

Kenny insists Newcastle will get a deal for Lodi done and claims Trippier can play a big role in facilitating the move.

“It always helps when you have someone on the inside,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I would be very surprised if Trippier hasn’t been on the phone to him, telling him how good it has been at Newcastle since he joined.

“He will be telling him it is an unbelievable club and that the fanbase is ridiculous. The project will be sold to him.

“Everyone is excited up there so I don’t know how much convincing it will take.

“If Newcastle want him, it will get done. I think that’s the world we are living in now.

“It will be another good signing too. He’s a Brazil international and has plenty of experience of top-level football.”
